Blog post Introduction: This is a story of Chinese family where Lulu Wang is narrator and a story revolves around her grandmother’s terminal condition where "Ignorance is bliss" for them. She calls her Nainai, who is 5 feet tall women with grey hair. Nainai diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and has given only three months to live. Literary Analysis: Lulu Yang is a writer, director and filmmaker. On 22 April, 2016 her podcast was published by "This American Life". She was born in Beijing China and moved to United States when she was little. She lives with her father and mother whereas her Nainai lives alone in old neighborhood of China. Her identical sister known as little Nainai lives at next street and she is Wang’s great aunt. Wang’s father moved to States when he was 8 years old and her uncle Hibin lives in Japan from 24 years. His son married to Japanese girl, who is completely unfamiliar with Chinese language. All of them are well known about Nainai condition but they didn’t tell her. However, Lulu’s father is known as smartest kid in the family, planned to go back to china and arranged a giant goodbye party in the giant wedding banquet hall . But Nainai is the only one who is kept ignorant about the hidden purpose of this party. They all tell her that it is wedding party of his grandson who loves a Japanese girl. They all were stuck to sorrow deep under but they pretend of being happy on that wedding event. This is very difficult time for a family, who is in fear to loss their Nainai. Argumentation: I agree with their family choice to deceive Wang’s grandmother because of their believe system that “Mental and emotional health are linked to physical health”. They made this decision based on her age. As a person get older, all of his body system starts shutting down. In addition, if they tell her then she might loss her hope to live and she couldn’t even live her last moments with joy. She might get depressed and as we know that depression is not good for health. It affects all organs of body and limit their tendency to fight with various diseases. Another possibility is that she might get admitted to a hospital where she started taking chemotherapy sessions. But her system couldn’t even cope up with such strong medications. Therefore, toxicity levels would be built up as human body gets older and dehydrated. In addition, she diagnosed at last stage of lung cancer and this cancer is metastasized so easily through bloodstream to other vital organs. She might die early because such strong medications weaken an immune system and a person get died even from minor infection. They made a clear choice so that she lives her last moments peacefully. Even though she had mastectomy in her early life but now she can’t make it chemo session again, due to her age. Narration: Sometimes in life, we have to made an important choice to tell someone a difficult truth or made an important choice to tell a lie that had a major impact on us or someone else life. It all depends upon a situation, culture and which country a person resides. I’m always going to speak truth in my profession of health care, no matter how hard it is but for the welfare of my patient. And this is a right of patient and he/she should be acknowledged about his/her medical condition and treatment. But if a patient is unable to take his decisions based upon his ability. So, I'm going to talk to those individuals, who are listed on his living Will or Durable power of Attorney. But If I lied, it may affect patient’s treatment or delay it. Therefore, by doing that violation, I might loss my job and it appear on my record for life time.
