Blog post introduction: The lottery is a short fiction story based on how village people mindlessly following traditions without doing any argue or question. On the summer morning of 27th June, a village of 300 population organised the lottery, where every household head draw the lottery. At the end, an unlucky winner of the lottery stoned to death by whole village. They follow this tradition from years and performs this annually. Tessie Hutchinson drawn a paper slip, who had black dot on it. Therefore, she was declared to stoned to death.
Literary Analysis: This story is written by Shirley Jackson in 1948, displaying a picture of Rural America, where some traditions such as "The lottery" are blindly followed by their young generations, without asking any question. This lottery tradition is not about money. It is a dark secret of that town, where every year one life is taken for the prosperity of their crops and for their families. The black, old, worn out box is considered very precious to them, and they are against to replace them. Even though they replace wood-chips with paper slips. The story ends with a death of a lady due to ignorance of villagers towards human rights. Argumentation: Hazing is a current American tradition that shows similarities with the lottery tradition in the village. It is known as ragging in South Asian countries. It is prevalent in schools, colleges, sports and clubs. It do have from minor such as insomnia, consumption of alcohol, sexual acts, humiliation to major severe consequences such as death. It imprints a lifetime worse impression on an individual. A person may suffer from post traumatic stress and may declines his trustworthy relations with others. It impact on his mental health and leads to lack of interest in life. A person may even go to depression and may have lack of self control and self esteem. This bizarre behavior weaken the relationships and trust. Hazed students earn poor grades and suffers from physical health issues as well. It more frightening than lottery tradition where only one person lose their life every year but in hazing several individual loses their life every year and some of them have a long term effects. According to Center of student development report of Dayton university,“1.5 million high school students are hazed each year; 47% of students came to college already having experienced hazing. 55% of college students involved in clubs, teams and organizations experience hazing.” Narration: I will break away from a family tradition, if that tradition feel frightening or irritating to me mentally, emotionally, and physically. But I don't practice any that kind of tradition that harms me and or anybody else. I came from a society where females does not have equal right to opportunities and to make their own life decisions. But I’m fortunate enough that my parents brought me here and they didn’t impose any of their wishes on me. They already broke away from such traditions like early marriages of girls, patriarchy, dowry, their limited access to education. They encourage me for further education and prosperous future. But with some of my other friends, as their parents follow some weird traditions, they get denied of their rights to college education. As well they get married early and have just limited their progress in their life. http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-dangerous-traditions.php https://udayton.edu/studev/leadership/involvement/student-life/hazing/statistics.php Blog Post Introduction: This is a fascinating story of twentieth century written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which describes the postpartum depression of a women. She doesn’t like the yellow color wallpaper of his new country house with several pattern of spots. Literally, in this story yellow wallpaper serves as a prison cell and she thinks a woman behind it struggling for freedom. Therefore, at the end she just tears down the wallpaper in order to freed her.
Literary Analysis: This autobiography was first published in 1892, in The New England Magazine. Jane is a main character, who suffers from mental breakdown followed by the birth of her first child. Due to her mental instability her condition was deteriorating deep down day by day. On other hand her husband John who is outstanding physician misdiagnosed her condition with hysteria and tell her to do rest. In addition her own brother, who is outstanding physician agrees with John decision regarding her condition. I believe that due to the sexism, she have to follow their advice. She is feeling so lonely therefore, she start writing journal in secret. So she can express her feeling and get escape from the world of reality. She don’t like her new room with yellow wallpaper and huge immovable bed. There are many spots on the wallpaper, which makes different patterns with daylight and moonlight. In addition, Jennie who is nurse, just take care of stay at home. This is another example, that indicates the male dominance society , where power of control only hold by male supremacy. Argumentation: She is trapped mentally and physically by yellow wallpaper and by her own thoughts. But emotionally she is trapped by her husband, who not allows her to leave that third floor room who have barred window at one end. She doesn’t want to live there for three months but her husband decision rule out. Male authority limits her abilities to make her own choices. She can’t live where she want. And at the end when she don’t want to leave that place her did not listen her. Back in the day women was required to agree with his husband and she didn’t have her own identity. This story depicts the women condition, how they were helpless and unempowered. Narration: Myself and society are ones who limits my ability upto some extent to make some important life choices. Considering myself, as I always do have fear of failure. As a result, sometimes I just stop trying. One of them is fear to drive and accidents all that stuff comes in mind before I just get into a car. On other hand society plays a major role in every individual’s life. Several times, “what people think about me” this thought disturbs me a lot. But in actual nobody cares. After battling with my thoughts, I reach to a point that, over thinking leads to unhappiness. I tried to keep myself busy so they negative thoughts don’t occupy my mind and end up my day with satisfaction. Blog post Introduction: This is a story of Chinese family where Lulu Wang is narrator and a story revolves around her grandmother’s terminal condition where "Ignorance is bliss" for them. She calls her Nainai, who is 5 feet tall women with grey hair. Nainai diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and has given only three months to live. Literary Analysis: Lulu Yang is a writer, director and filmmaker. On 22 April, 2016 her podcast was published by "This American Life". She was born in Beijing China and moved to United States when she was little. She lives with her father and mother whereas her Nainai lives alone in old neighborhood of China. Her identical sister known as little Nainai lives at next street and she is Wang’s great aunt. Wang’s father moved to States when he was 8 years old and her uncle Hibin lives in Japan from 24 years. His son married to Japanese girl, who is completely unfamiliar with Chinese language. All of them are well known about Nainai condition but they didn’t tell her. However, Lulu’s father is known as smartest kid in the family, planned to go back to china and arranged a giant goodbye party in the giant wedding banquet hall . But Nainai is the only one who is kept ignorant about the hidden purpose of this party. They all tell her that it is wedding party of his grandson who loves a Japanese girl. They all were stuck to sorrow deep under but they pretend of being happy on that wedding event. This is very difficult time for a family, who is in fear to loss their Nainai. Argumentation: I agree with their family choice to deceive Wang’s grandmother because of their believe system that “Mental and emotional health are linked to physical health”. They made this decision based on her age. As a person get older, all of his body system starts shutting down. In addition, if they tell her then she might loss her hope to live and she couldn’t even live her last moments with joy. She might get depressed and as we know that depression is not good for health. It affects all organs of body and limit their tendency to fight with various diseases. Another possibility is that she might get admitted to a hospital where she started taking chemotherapy sessions. But her system couldn’t even cope up with such strong medications. Therefore, toxicity levels would be built up as human body gets older and dehydrated. In addition, she diagnosed at last stage of lung cancer and this cancer is metastasized so easily through bloodstream to other vital organs. She might die early because such strong medications weaken an immune system and a person get died even from minor infection. They made a clear choice so that she lives her last moments peacefully. Even though she had mastectomy in her early life but now she can’t make it chemo session again, due to her age. Narration: Sometimes in life, we have to made an important choice to tell someone a difficult truth or made an important choice to tell a lie that had a major impact on us or someone else life. It all depends upon a situation, culture and which country a person resides. I’m always going to speak truth in my profession of health care, no matter how hard it is but for the welfare of my patient. And this is a right of patient and he/she should be acknowledged about his/her medical condition and treatment. But if a patient is unable to take his decisions based upon his ability. So, I'm going to talk to those individuals, who are listed on his living Will or Durable power of Attorney. But If I lied, it may affect patient’s treatment or delay it. Therefore, by doing that violation, I might loss my job and it appear on my record for life time. |
